The cabinet approves the establishment of the Amata University

The cabinet approves the establishment of “Amata University” in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate, Chonburi province. This is a collaboration with the National Taiwan University which will offer advanced engineering courses at master’s level to support EEC and the development of the Smart City into the automotive industry and the development of future robots.

Lt.Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd, spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office has announced the result of the cabinet meeting, stating that the cabinet has agreed with The Ministry of Education proposing the establishment of Amata University with the Master of Science (MS) in Engineering (Intelligent Manufacturing System) course of the National Taiwan University in Thailand.

The Ministry of Education mentioned that National Taiwan University is Taiwan’s most famous national research university. The main campus is located in Taipei City and is ranked as the # 1 university in Taiwan by the World University Rankings of the QS University Rankings, which are ranked in the TOP 100 of the world every year, and in 2017, the QS ranking of the National Taiwan University was placed 76th in the world. The field that is being planned to teach in Thailand is ranked as 23rd of the world.

Curriculum

The curriculum that will be used to teach in Thailand from the National Taiwan University is the Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering (Intelligent Manufacturing System) which will focus on the development of robotics to help automate the production line (Future of Automation) and develop the automotive industry of the future (Autonomous Vehicle) to support the development of smart city in ECC (Eastern Economic Corridor). It also develops scientific and technological human resources to meet the needs of the target industry (S-Curve) as well.

This curriculum will use the same standard as the National Taiwan University including teachers, access to research information and hours of study required both in theory and practice. The courses will be taught in both English and Chinese and will take 2 years in total (as master’s degree). The university will be located in in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate, Chonburi province owned by Vikrom Kromadit.

Target Industry

The Cabinet also confirmed that the university will be set up in the area of the ECC and will not take students from other universities in Thailand. The aim is to focus on the fields that Thailand is still lacking in and focus in the field of 10 target industries:

  1. Next-generation Automotive
  2. Smart Electronics
  3. Agriculture and Biotechnology
  4. Food for the Future
  5. Affluent, Medical and Wellness Tourism
  6. Robotics
  7. Aviation and Logistics
  8. Medical Hub
  9. Biofuels and Biochemicals
  10. Digital
